DR. SIMON SCHILLING

is a founding partner at SAMP SCHILLING & PARTNER and advises domestic and international clients on all aspects of real estate law. His practice includes the full range of real estate transactions as well as real estate developments and commercial leases.
Due to his longstanding focus on the real estate industry he has an in-depth understanding of the real estate business and a profound market knowledge. Simon was named Lawyer of the Year 2023 for real estate business law by the renowned German business and finance newspaper Handelsblatt.

Prior to founding SAMP SCHILLING & PARTNER Simon worked for more than six years in a renowned international law firm in the area of real estate commercial law and completed during this time his studies in real estate economics at the International Real Estate Business School of the University of Regensburg.

After his studies in Munich and Berlin, Simon obtained his doctoral degree with Prof. Dr. Walter Bayer on insolvency and corporate law aspects. He was a lecturer in business law at the University of Bayreuth for more than 10 years.

Simon was admitted to the bar in 2007. He speaks German, English and French and has a conversational knowledge of Spanish.

2005 Doctoral Degree in the fields of corporate and insolvency law with Prof. Dr. Walter Bayer

1999 – 2004 Legal Studies at Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich and Humboldt-University in Berlin


Deal Experience
Some highlights of Simon’s recent work include advising:

    • Arbireo Capital, denkmalneu and other consortium partners on the acquisition of an office real estate portfolio consisting of four properties in four cities with a total area of approx. 110,000 sqm. Advising on the subsequent development of the properties.
    • denkmalneu and a consortium of investors on the purchase and comprehensive revitalization of the “Haus am Zwinger” in Dresden.
    • BEOS AG i.a. on the sale of a logistics property leased to Hermes to a British fund.
    • Joint venture between a German family office and a project developer on the purchase and development of the “The Post” site at Augustus-Platz in Leipzig (leasing to i.A. PWC, Fed Ex, Motel One, Edeka).
    • German single family office on their day-to-day legal asset management, i.a. on the redevelopment of an office and logistics building (80.000 sqm floor space) in Berlin, deal experience with players such as Deutsche Post, AOK, BiMA, Edeka, BIM.
    • Bright Industrial i.a. with the acquisition of a German leasehold with 29.000m² large commercial area in Hamburg with partial sale & leaseback and exercise of the purchase option on the property.
    • Hamburger Pensionsverwaltung eG on the acquisition of a logistics property in Bremen and the conclusion of a long-term lease agreement.
    • Minerva on the acquisition of a building plot in Berlin and the subsequent forward deal for an office property with approx. 30,000 sqm gross floor space.
    • Institutional investor in the acquisition and sale of several retail parks for a special fund.
    • Institutional investor on the sale of a Berlin residential portfolio to a Swedish investor group.
    • Advising on the conclusion of large commercial lease agreements across all industries including office, retail and logistic (on landlord as well as on tenant side).
    • Litigation in connection with large commercial lease agreements across all industries (on landlord as well as on tenant side).
    • English fund in the acquisition of two industrial parks in Berlin and Brandenburg.
    • Westgrund AG on the acquisition and sale of residential property portfolios.
    • Project developer on the purchase of an office property and the subsequent development into a residential property.
    • Project developer and consortium partner on the acquisition of an office property portfolio in German A and B cities that has been leased long-term to a German Dax group.
    • Institutional investor i.a. on the conclusion of a joint venture to acquire and redesignate an industrial property in Berlin.
    • Family foundation, i.a. on the acquisition of an office property portfolio worth over EUR 100 Mio.
    • Advising an investment fund on the acquisition of a commercial high street property in a major German city for re-development
    • Advising INBRIGHT on the forward sale of a logistics property
